Today I want to talk about divine support. As I said in previous articles, God doesn’t force. You are free to do whatever you want. His will for you is perfect happiness, so He’d love for you to stay safe in heaven, but you left, so even though that wasn’t His will for you, He followed you here, because He would never leave you comfortless. And He’s trying everything He can to get you to come back home. A Course in Miracles says God created the Holy Spirit (our intuition) as an answer to our leaving, so we would have a built-in guide and compass to guide us back home. And so even though we’re seeing ourselves as separate from God, His loving voice would be forever in our minds. Always there, always accessible, ready to help.
So clearly, you do have divine support in your life. But God is God; not a genie. Sometimes people get upset with God or complain about everything they perceive as going wrong in their lives. In those moments they’re actually perceiving God as kind of a genie, a santa clause or a vending machine. And then it’s kinda like a little kid throwing a tantrum over something they don’t have instead of showing gratitude for everything they do have.
Divine support is exactly that – SUPPORT. It’s not someone else doing everything for you. This is YOUR life. You are the star in it. You are in control. So that means that first of all, you SHOULD do everything that’s in your control. You can’t just spend all your days at home on the couch and wait for everything to come to you. You do everything that’s in your control, and then you surrender the outcome.
Secondly, you have to really understand what free will means. Because with most things we want, other people’s free will choices play a factor. We don’t live in a vacuum. Most of the time other people are connected to the things we want. For example, you might have a crush on someone, and you wish that they would be your lover, but they don’t want to. In that case your free will and their free will are in conflict with each other. God can’t trespass the other person’s free will. He can’t “make them love you” because that person simply doesn’t want to be with you. You might be pissed because you didn’t get what you wanted, but imagine if it were the other way around. Would you like to be forced to be with someone? We have free will because everything else would be cruel. It’s kinda like the difference between a democracy and a dictatorship. Above all we want to be free, right? So yes, do everything that’s in your power, and let the rest go. This reminds me again of the serenity prayer.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
Taking, as Jesus did,
This sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it,
Trusting that You will make all things right,
If I surrender to Your will,
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.
The key to achieving anything you want, is to never give up. Keep putting one foot in front of the other, keep hustling, keep working for it, put yourself out there, don’t settle, believe that you’re worthy of greatness, and act on that belief. And as I said here, the people who make this world a better place are the people who KNOW everything that’s wrong with this world. It’s like that line from A Course in Miracles: Let me recognize the problem so it can be solved. You have to first know that there’s a problem in order to solve it. And that’s how we change the world. By first of all being aware of the problems, and then working on fixing them, one day at a time, and never give up. That’s how we can transform this nightmare of a world into a happy dream. And then we go back home.
I said before that the first change, before dreams disappear, is that your dreams of fear are changed to happy dreams.
