Have you ever experiences this – everything’s actually really good and then suddenly you start having these thoughts that tell you that you, your job, your relationship, your home, or whatever is not good enough? And then you spend days, weeks, months being miserable only to realize that there was nothing missing in the first place? That you actually had everything all along? This is one of the ego’s many tactics to make our lives miserable. But there’s a simple solution to this dynamic.
You know, the ego is kind of like a drug addict. It’s always looking for a rush. As soon as your life becomes somewhat comfortable, the ego starts trying to convince you that the life you’ve chosen is actually garbage. It’s trying to disrupt your happiness by telling you things like that your home isn’t big enough, beautiful enough, fancy enough, your job isn’t good enough, isn’t paying you enough, isn’t important enough. It’s trying to sabotage your romantic relationships by telling you that you’re “missing the excitement”, but when you’re not in a relationship and you’re having plenty of excitement, aka uncertainty, you’re saying that all you want is a relationship and steadiness and someone you can count on. It’s insane! The ego will ALWAYS tell you that what you have isn’t good enough. The ego’s entire existence circles around the central theme of not enough. Don’t fall into that trap. Don’t sabotage your happiness.
Of course there are times when we move on from a job, from a relationship, or anything else because it’s no longer a fit, and you should never settle for mediocrity, but there’s a difference between being like a spoiled little child complaining that our toy isn’t as shiny as the next kid’s toy, and being called to something greater, being called to your magnificence, being called to rise up.
And the truth is, when we keep our thoughts loving and positive, and when we keep our side of the street clean, the opportunities to rise up to the next level present themselves naturally. Remember, A Course in Miracles says that miracles occur NATURALLY, and when they do not occur, something has gone wrong.
And whether you are on the path of miracles or on the path of self-sabotage depends solely on which guide you choose. Meaning, you can choose the ego’s thoughts of “not enough” and that will give you one reality, or you can choose the holy spirit’s thoughts of “let me be an instrument of peace, may I be a conduit for love” and be loving and kind, show up fully for every person and every situation and treat them as if they were the perfect person and the perfect situation, because in spiritual truth they ARE perfect for you in this present moment.
It’s not that the universe isn’t giving you the people and the opportunities that are perfect for you; it’s that you’re missing them if you don’t show up fully, and if you’re not present because you’re looking for the next best thing instead of showing up for what’s right in front of you.
If you feel like something’s missing from your life, it’s missing more of YOU! Your presence, your focus, your energy, your love, your kindness,… Only what you are not giving can be lacking in any situation.
So try this week to fully show up for your life. Fully show up for your job, fully show up for relationships, fully show up for your meditation practice, and fully show up for anything in between. Treat every person you’re with as if they were the only person you want to spend time with, give them all your focus, attention, presence, and love, and see what difference that makes.
Show up fully for life. Show up for all people and all situations as if “this is it”, because it is. Realize that the universe is always sending you the perfect opportunities, people and situations for this present moment, but that you miss them if you’re not fully present for them because you’re on the lookout for something better. So in short: BE HERE NOW.
The only thing missing in your life is more of you, more of your presence, more of your focus, more of your attention, more of your energy, more of your love. You only get out of life what you put into it. So show up fully. Show up as your best self. BRING great energy with you, instead of wishing for the situation or the person to give you their energy. Show up. And shine brightly.
